To calm my cabin fever I made a lil video to document the 2008 Portland Snow Storm. Features local talent, HEY LOVER’s track “Here Comes the Snow”:

It rarely snows in Portland and when it does, people tend to freak out as if they have been transported to Siberia.

THE SKY LIT UP!

The most intense sunset I have ever seen. The art nature provides us is breathtaking. I can understand why Rennaisance painters were so influenced by the earth and sky. Talk about enlightenment! What is even more special is that those who caught the sunset only had it for a few moments before it faded into purple dusk.

A natural force that has had it’s artistic influence on me is water. I find it incredible how powerful a body of water can be…smoothing over rocks, soothing our hot tired bodies or can even take us under it’s current. Here is a song Jon and I are working on for the next Swallows record…

Lately, I’ve into taking random pictures on my lo-res camera phone.

This is one I took inside the bathroom stall of the E-Room.

((( The E-Room is the only official lesbian bar in Portland so as you can imagine, the stalls are covered with tasteful goddess art and heartfelt confessions )))

Anthem against Proposition 8

prop8

It is exciting to see MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann – who claims to be a straight guy without many gay friends/family/colleagues – oppose California’s Prop 8 (banning gay marriage). Protests (including thousands in SF and demonstrations in Portland, OR!) are incredibly inspiring as well.

Typically, I’m not consciously political in my artistry. Yet, I have been moved by this blatant slap in the face of human rights and wrote an impromptu anthem inspired by the passing of Proposition 8:

When they come to us they’ll come in masses
When they come to us they’ll come to our doors
And they’ll peak inside…
But all they’ll find is love

When they come to us they’ll come in masses
When they come to us they’ll arrive in the night
So we must unite…
So we can fight with our love!

Corny, cheesy? Possibly. I hope it can be applied as an uplifting ballad for any time of trial.

BTW- Jon of Swallows and I will do a vocal/percussive duet of this song on our next album!

I am super excited to present my 15 minute documentary on Siren Nation.

Siren Nation is a festival that showcases the achievements made by women in art, music and film! This documentary shines light on the music portion of the festival and includes interviews with performers, organizers and incite from the audience members!

It also features live footage from Scout Niblett, Laura Veirs, Northern State, The Trucks and more! Check it out!
